Over the last year, teen suicides have been on an uprise due to bullying. What a shame!
From the time we are growing up and start attending school, we are subjected to teasing by our friends and classmates if we look diferrent, dress different, speak different, go to a different church, eat different, or even like someone these so called friends qualify as different. What these “kids” don’t realize is the emotional damage they are causing on another human being. Now, who gave these kids the right to judge others? Who did they learn it from? Home? Society? Culture?

So far I haven’t found the root of bullying but what I did find was that 20-30% of school-age children are involved in bullying incidents mainly as the victim. It seems that parents are scared to stand up to their children nowadays and so is the school system. When a kid is bullied in a classroom full of people including a teacher why is no one putting a stop to this? These bullying acts seem to be condoned by adults which are not realizing, or maybe they are, the message they are sending to the children. “It’s okay to hurt others!”
It is not okay to hurt others for no reason. I feel that bullies have to be held responsible for their actions and they need to suffer consequences. For all anyone knows, these bullies can turn out to be serial killers, rapists, etc. If parents, schools, authorities and the government don’t put a stop to this soon we will lose more helpless lives that are not meant to be lost.
Because I came out of the closet a little later than some, it didn’t go through bullying because of sexual preference but I sure did go through teasing and bullying for other reasons. The way I dressed, my weight, my religious beliefs, etc. After I came out of the closet, I did go through quite a bit of teasing and bullying because of my sexual preference and the way I dress. I’m not a femme, I’ve never been, because I feel comfortable in my own skin. It took me some time to accept who I really am because of my upbringing but I realized, as I got older, I am who I am and I was put in this earth for a reason and I am a child of God. I don’t personally care what preachers, priests, pastors, or ministers think about my lifestyle because I am at peace and I am who who I’ve always been. A kind-hearted, hard-working individual that wants fairness and equality for all because I was born this way and no one can change that.
And if any LGBTQ teens have the opportunity or take a minute to read this, please keep in mind it does get better. There is plenty of help for you out there, don’t give up because no one has the right to take your life away by making you feel worthless because of who you are.
